Button to "detach" occurence copies

Sometimes, when modelling, you reuse an object as occurence copy you later find out that it is not. Rather than having to delete and create a new object and then attach all connections, it would be great if there was an easy way in which I simply tell the system, no longer to be used as ocurrence copy. And then, I could simply rename the object.
