ARIS Connect Designer (and other Designer clients) automatically adds an occurrence of the parent object, to a VACD process model, when the model is assigned to its parent object.
This creates an undesirable inconsistency in the Value-added Chain Diagram; because a model should not contain itself. A Value-added Chain is a representation of how value flows through the sub-processes; it is not a hierarchical representation of a process hierarchy. We have Function Tree models to represent the hierarchy. I understand that VACD can be used to represent hierarchy; but I believe this is not the primary use for most users, and it is a violation of our modeling conventions where each VACD model represents only one level of the hierarchy.
As a result of this undesireable function. we currently have to train all of our designers "ARIS puts in this unwanted object, there is no way to stop it from doing that, you must remember to go in to the model and delete that erroneous object." This not only wastes time, it makes no sense and just sounds really stupid.
