Scenario: A Process Modeller wants to change an existing BPMN Model. A Lane needs to be replaced, either a Role Lane, Application System Lane, etc.
As an example, let's take the role 'Buyer', which comes from the Library/Glossary (Figure 1).
The Role Lane 'Buyer' needs to be replaced by Lane 'Local Data Requestor', also coming from the Library/Glossary.
The Modeller has no access rights to the Library. This is on purpose, as the Library/Catalog for Roles and Application Systems is maintained by a central entity/department.
Problem Definition: As per Figure 1 attached, the Modeller cannot replace the Lane (Role Lane in this case), which is 'grayed out'. This is because the Role is stored in the Role Library, which the user does not have access rights. Replacing the role should be a straight forward exercise, but it is rather time consuming and inefficient. See below the steps to be performed.
Select the Lane that needs to be replaced, and add a lane above or below. (Figure 2)
Select all Objects from the Role ane that needs to be replaced. (Figure 3)
Move them into the new Role lane created. (Figure 3)
Delete the previous role lane. (Figure 4)
Name the Lane as per the new Role Name from the Library. (Figure 4)
Proposed Solution:
ARIS apparently automatically recognizes that the user wants to rename the existing role, and therefore blocks the user of doing so. However the user in this case wants to rather replace the existing role per a different role.
ARIS should facilitate that, for example, by allowing the user to choose if they want to rename the existing role or replace it per a new role (if the user does not have access to the Library, then renaming it is not possible).
Thanks,
Very eager to see this development!
